THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN OUR KIT. IN THE YEARS WE HAVE BUILT THIS KIT, ONE THING IS VERY CLEAR, HENRY FORD WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE EARLY MOTORS, THEREFORE, YOU MUST LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING:

32-’48

  • ALL CONVERTERS ARE MADE TO FIT THE SMALL HOLE (NO CRANKSHAFT MODS ARE REQUIRED)
  • A NEW STYLE GEAR REDUCTION IS AVAILABLE ON THE STARTER PAGE.
  • A STANDARD CAR OIL PAN WITH A SIMPLE MODIFICATION IS NOW THE PREFERRED OPTION.

’49-’53

  • THE HOLE IN THE CRANKSHAFT COULD BE EATHER 5/8″ OR 1 1/4″, NO MODIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR EATHER SIZE.
  • YOU MUST USE EITHER A STAMPED STEEL OR CAST IRON BELLHOUSING TO ALLOW IT TO BOLT TO A ’39-’40 STYLE TRANSMISSION TO YOUR ’49-’53 MOTOR. PLEASE SEE THE STARTER PAGE FOR DETAILS.

YOU MUST CHANGE AN EARLY CLOSED DRIVESHAFT SYSTEM TO AN OPEN DRIVESHAFT. WE NOW OFFER AN OPEN DRIVELINE KIT FOR THIS APPLICATION. YOU COULD ALSO INSTALL AN 8″ OR 9″ FORD OR A 10 OR 12 BOLT GM REAR END. GEAR CHOICE DEPENDS ON USAGE.** ON CARS WITH X-MEMBERS, SOME MINOR CHANGES SHOULD BE MADE FOR BETTER INSTALLATION. CHECK WITH US FOR PARTS AND SOLUTIONS.

** MOST DESIRABLE GEAR RATIOS ARE 3.50 – 3.25 – 3.00

THESE ARE THE DIMENSIONS YOU NEED TO CONSIDER:

  • TRANSMISSION WIDTH IS 12″ AT ITS WIDEST POINT.
  • OVERALL LENGTH FROM END TO END AT TRANSMISSION AND ADAPTER IS 27″.
  • ON ’32-’48 MOTORS FROM THE BACK OF THE BLOCK TO CENTER OF TRANSMISSION MOUNT BOLTS IF 16 3/4″.
  • ON ’49-’53 MOTORS FROM THE BACK OF THE BLOCK TO CENTER OF TRANSMISSION MOUNT BOLTS IS 20″.

YOU CAN USE ’67 THRU ’81 C-4 TRANSMISSIONS. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A CHANGE IN 1971 THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN WHICH TORQUE CONVERTER SHOULD BE USED. WE RECOMMEND A TRANSMISSION FROM A V-8 APPLICATION.(DIFFERENCE IS IN THE INPUT SPLINE 24 OR 26 SPLINE.)

IF YOU HAVE AN EARLY ’64 1/2- ’69 TRANSMISSION YOU WILL HAVE A 24 SPLINE INPUT SHAFT. YEARS ’70-’81 YOU WILL HAVE A 26 SPLINE SHAFT.
YOU CAN EITHER USE LOKAR SHIFTERS, OR MUSTANG-PINTO SHIFTERS, ( CAN ALSO BE SHIFTED ON THE COLUMN). IT DEPENDS ON YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE.
